Wayne Sleep (famous Ballet dancer) as a Ballroom Queen performing the Waltz, Tango, Cha Cha and Paso Doble, from his show DASH. In 1980 Wayne formed his own dance company DASH which after many seasons in the West End toured the world, concluding back in London at the Coliseum. Produced, directed, designed and financed by Wayne Sleep. The show premièred at Chichester Festival Theatre in 1980, then toured to the King's Theatre, Edinburgh and the New Palace Theatre, Plymouth in 1981. The concept to present dance to a wider audience was a show of mixed styles: ballet, jazz, tap and contemporary, an innovation at the time and one that was well received by both critics and audience. As Ann Nugent said in Dance and Dancers: "Wayne Sleep deserved a special prize for making dance more accessible with his brilliantly conceived DASH." ABOUT WAYNE SLEEP: Wayne Sleep (born 1948 in Plymouth, UK)won a Leverhulme Scholarship to the Royal Ballet School in 1961 and joined the Royal Ballet Company in 1966. Later he became a Principal Dancer and had numerous roles created for him by amongst others Ashton, MacMillan, de Valois, Layton, Nureyev, and Neumeier. He was a Guest Artist with several ballet companies, including English National, London City, Scottish, Capab, and London Contemporary Dance.
